I just got back from Ft. McCoy where the Challenge Academy cadets saw their families for the FIRST time.
It was so special to watch and be a part of. Jade (today’s news photographer) and I talked to Cody Taylor and his family about how it has been since Cody has been away. His parents talked to me about how much their son has matured, and how apparent it is that he’s grown up in the 11 weeks he’s been at the Challenge Academy.
It’s hard to believe the program is already at the half-way mark, I can’t believe in another 11 weeks it’ll be over.
Today is a truly special day for Challenge Academy cadets, parents, and viewers following the series. I remember interviewing the parents and teens at the first day of the program…so many were at a breaking point with each other, not sure how to handle their situation anymore, and looking for help. Today, watching the families gather and talk to each other was proof of how many teens have support going through the program. Of course, there were cadets there who didn’t have any family members come, and others who had to go between mom’s table and dad’s table, but overall it was a great family day for everyone involved.
Tune in tonight (Sunday) at 10 and watch as these cadets reunite with their families for the first time since they’ve been away.
